Step 1: Preparation and Peaceful Listening

Find a quiet spot in a park, garden, or backyard where birds can be heard. Spread out a mat and sit with your child. Let the silence invite in nature’s symphony. When a bird chirps, pause and try to mimic the sound together: “chirrr,” “cheep,” “peep-peep.” This activity sharpens listening skills and helps toddlers tune into language through playful sound imitation.

Step 2: Reflection and Playful Dialogue

After listening, ask your child: which bird sounded the happiest? Which chirp was the softest or funniest? You can turn it into a fun game—create tiny bird “conversations” by repeating the sounds and inventing stories. These playful interactions enrich language, foster emotional awareness, and connect your child to nature.
